WineXpert Question for you Raisin adders, Tweakers and other miscreants.

What about raisins that have added oil? Sunflower or palm oil. I have not been able to find any without it. Is this a concern?

    Cellar Craft First wine kit.

Highly recommend the electric drill and whisk degassing method. I like the reversable/cordless drill. I alternate forward and reverse of the drill every 5-10 seconds to really stir things up, and by alternating the direction, you wont get a "vortex" that will suck air into your wine. Oxygen...

    Packlab Raisins/Currants for Barolo

Labelled as Vino Europa...I suspect the same kit. Double kit from Costco, but I think 10L juices? (not at home right now to check). Pretty good deals for tweaker kits, but an Eclipse is definitely on my radar as well. Have quite a few in queue now, and the cellar if full, full, full. Nice...

    Packlab Raisins/Currants for Barolo

Not expecting anything approaching a true Barolo, of course. It's just a good opportunity for some experimenting. Thanks for your notes kevinlfifer. I was thinking 1 lb raisins, 1 tsp tannin and a cup med french oak chips in the fermenter. If it turns out terrible, no big loss.

Packlab Blend/Top Up Suggestions for Pinot Noir ?

So....I went with just a cup of medium toast Frenck oak, boiled, and added what was left of the water as well. Smelled amazing! I thought it a good idea to use a muslin bag that I had left from a grapeskin kit, to hold the chips....ah.. no.....it won't fit in the neck of the carboy. Thought...

    Other Shipping Cross-border for Competition

Has anyone ever entered the Winemakers Magazine Annual competition? Specifically, from Canada? Seems the shipping process may be little complicated.

Other Has anyone bought these kits from Costco in Canada?

I've done almost all the Costco kits available to us in Canada and have good results (not great) with the Argentia Ridge kits, especially the Chardonnay, which I have bottled several times. That one is pretty good. The reds are ok. Drinkable but just ok. I haven't had the Amorone though...

Packlab Blend/Top Up Suggestions for Pinot Noir ?

Thanks for the replies. I will go with the merlot and oak. I was a little hesitant on this kit, as I recently did another "all juice" Paklab kit of Pinotage, and the early samples are not real promising. Nasty actually. We'll see if some time in the bottle may improve that one.

WineXpert Washington Riesling Chenin Blanc LE - Tweaks please

Mine came out great as stock kit. FYI.

Packlab Blend/Top Up Suggestions for Pinot Noir ?

Thanks. As well, the kit came with no oak ! I'm not expecting too much from this kit, as it was inexpensive (Paklab), however I'm using it for some practice tweaking. I was thinking of med. French chips/beans in for bulk aging? Or would this be too much for Pinot? Should I start...

What was the first wine you made?

WE Vintners Reserve Shiraz. Not Good. Very thin, mostly because of novice rackings and topping with water. Learned a lot on the cheaper kits first !

    WineXpert Best 4 week whites

My WE World Vinyard Pinot Grigio turned out real nice. Their French Sauvignon Blanc a close second. However, I think they may be 5 week kits, can't remember fer sure.
