Wine Kit - As a base

The problem with white grape is that it is not neutral it comes out very grapey and not in a good way it tastes much like lambrussco and is too forward. Pinot G may be too forward to but for say a sauv. Blanc may not be

Wine Kit - As a base

I was wondering if anyone has used wine kits as a base. Many of the Jack Keller call for adding grape concentrate our raisins. Can I use the juice from the kit instead? Has anyone tried this? It just seems making peach wine for example would be better with Pinot Grigio juice vs 1 lb of...

    Crystal Light wine

I was just thinking of doing this. I think it would make a great (wine cooler) type wine. I think the Strawberry Lemonade would go over very well. I am thinking of adding the Crystal Light to Concord White Grape wine. It came out too grapey for my taste and was looking to do something with...

    Oak

Perfect and thank you all for the great information. Now if I could find out how to get that peppery taste in my wine.

    Oak

I may get bumped on this but, I did do a search first. I am making a Chilean Merlot, it is a Medium Range kit and it does NOT come with oak in it. I want a nice oaky flavor that one would expect from a Chilean Merlot, the question is which type of oak, and how much would you add to a 6 gallon...

Hard to get offended on a website that has us all making copious amount a homemade wine. There are still people that liken me to a moonshiner. I try to tell them that what I am doing is legal. But everytime a give a bottle of wine away they always tuck it away as though the ATF is going to...

    Absinthe recipe

From what I understand, the wine is not just Anise flavored, it has Cinnamon, Cardamon, and a few other spices. I would think it would fall well into the spiced wines. I am going to try one after reading this with Honey, Cinnamon, Anise, Cardamom, Mint and Wormswood.

    Absinthe recipe

The FDA does not ban the substance (yet) it is written like this. The FDA advises against the internal use of wormwood due to the substance thujone.

    Absinthe recipe

It is not illegal to make an Absinthe Wine, which is common in Germany, this is NOT distilled. You can buy the Wormwood from an array of brewstores. It will have Thujone in it so I would make it at home and drink it at home. MUD this is the original version of Absinthe that was made prior to...

WineXpert Eclipse Napa Valley Stags Leap District Merlot w/ Grape Skins

I just ordered Lodi Ranch 11 Cabernet Sauvignon with Grape Skins today. I will let you know how it comes out. The price was a bit of hiccup but in reality it is still only about 5.50 per bottle and if it is as good as they make it sound. I am going to be very happy.

    Black Pepper

@Winemanden Thank you, this is just what I was talking about that tingling the Chocolate/Merlot (w/Peppercorns) is done fermenting and is now being oaked. Then off to bulk age. I tasted it and even at this extremely 'new' state it is very yummy. I cannot wait until 1 yr from now to taste the...

    Oak Spirals

Also can you reuse the spirals, for example in this case I want to make a Cab Sauv. I want a fair amount of oak but nothing overpowering. Can I use it 2-3 weeks then remove it, then freeze it and then add it back to a chardonnay that I think would benefit from a hint of oak in it? Or would...
