    What R you doing today?

Looking strong, Krafty. Can you tell us what the orientation of the rows is, e.g. east-west, north south, etc.

    Corks, and other bottle stoppers

For anyone having problems with wear on their Italian Floor Corker, please take time to read through this post by NorCal. I had the problem of wear making the centering of the push pin inconsistent. I made this change and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I sold the corker (Ugh!) when we were...

    Corks, and other bottle stoppers

Not sure if you are asking me, but, yes, I use the K-meta solution which I keep in a gallon jug or in a spray bottle. The other benefit I see from the K-meta is that I can pour a few ounces into a carboy, swish it around and pour it back into the jug. As long as I get a strong smell of the...

I have never used StarSan, which I believe is more for sanitizing equipment, work surface, etc. The reason I use K-meta is that it is not only a contact sanitizer, but also sanitizes by releasing a gas. I don't like my corks to be wet when I bottle, so the gas works for me. In mixing my K-meta...

    Corks, and other bottle stoppers

Would it be possible to post a picture of the corks with the bottom edges folded up? It would seem that there is a problem with your floor corker. These corkers work by having the iris squeeze the cork into a smaller diameter, uniform cylinder. My guess would be that at times the cork somehow...

I do something similar but I use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075RVG7FL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I pour a few ounces of K-meta in the bottom and add the corks to the basket. I can use the spinner feature to shuffle the corks around in the gas. Works great for me.

Raptor, here is what I mean about searching Craig's List in your area. This listing is for materials just outside of Detroit, Michigan. https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/hsh/d/new-baltimore-wine-making-equipment/7724772339.html If you look at it, the list of materials includes 4 glass...

    Corks, and other bottle stoppers

Many years ago before I got a floor corker, I used the double-lever hand corker. I found if I put the bottle on the floor and captured it between the insteps of my feet to secure it, I could bend over and use enough body weight to insert the cork. I just found this image online, illustrating...

You can use a double levered hand corker but it is a chore and you could end up destroying a few corks. I highly recommend a floor corker and I know they are pricey. Keep your eye on Craig's List. I bought two of the Portuguese models from Craig's list for very good pricing, i.e. around $20 each.

Anna, in reading through your post, you talk about the size of the corks (length and diameter) you use but not the material from which it is made. All corks are not created equal. There are natural corks that are available in several "grades," agglomerated corks, combination of natural and...

    Fizzy Wine

I would guess that your wines are undergoing refermentation. I have never had the issue because only on one or two occasions did I back-sweeten a wine. In those cases, I added the Sorbate before adding the sugar, so I am not sure what you should do at this point.

My Bride has a problem with her right knee and gets periodic injections of a product called "Gel One" and cortisone. It really helps her and last for about 6 month then needs to be re-introduced. You might want to talk to your doctor about this before going "under the knife."

    What are these bubbles?

Could be related to changes in barometric pressure. I don't think it is a cause for concern.

Bryan, the plastic caps that come on the juice bags in FWKs fit the top of a gallon, 3 liter or 4 liter jug perfectly. No need to buy them. (Yes, I am frugal.) Here are a gallon, half gallon and 3 liter with the caps from FWKs.
