What is the best fruit wine?

Cracked, what fruits besides strawberry do you suggest using 100% fruit? Also, how do you get a s.g. reading?

    Persimmon wine

It wasn't from the spoon, it ran out of my mouth. Yes people do rack by putting their lips on the hose (might I add, after the alcohol content is up.) I've made a few batches of wine before this one and they never smelled like sewage. Trust me, it was bad.

    Persimmon wine

Update: The wine went bad... it was going great the first 3 or 4 days, but I tried to taste it off of the spoon...while I was directly over the bucket, and well, let's just say I contaminated it. It smelled horrible. I started another batch...I used the same amount of "cups" 22...but they...

    Persimmon wine

By pulp, I mean what is pressed out of the persimmons, leaving the seeds and skin behind. I suppose some would call the seeds and skin the pulp. Not at all dry. Has the consistency of pudding. I ended up using 22 cups, or 5.5 quarts, which was about 13 pounds...and enough water to make 4.5...

    Persimmon wine

I have been searching for a recipe that uses pulp instead of whole perssimons. I have a LOT of perssimon pulp but recipes I have found thus far call for a certain number of pounds of perssimons...may have to wing it...If I have to guess, I am going to guess that the pulp makes up about 2/3 of...

    Problem stopping fermentation

I will degass and rack. If it's still making tiny bubbles then I'm not sure what to do...but for now I will degass and rack and hope! btw....the first batch of wine I made was apple/crabapple wine which went great at first. A few weeks after I racked it it had a strong rubber smell and...

    Problem stopping fermentation

I haven't taken a s.g. reading since I first decided I wanted to stop it....it won't do me much good now unless I can find the notes I lost. I know the pot. sorbate doesn't kill the yeast, only prevents them from reproducing...but I read that this was an effective way to stop the fermentation...

    Problem stopping fermentation

the bubbling I'm referring to are a small amount of tiny bubbles i can see... nothing like an active fermentation. and like I said, after one week or so, it was about 14% abv using yeast that shouldn't have been able to go beyond that. I guess it's likely to be MLF, but I didn't know what to...

    Problem stopping fermentation

I am making wildgrape/banana wine...it fermented very quickly (a few days) to what should have been the alcohol % limit for the yeast. I didn't want it to ferment any further, and besides, I figured it was pretty much done, so I transfered to secondary and stabilized it with the correct amounts...
