    primary fermenter

Even on a budget it's amazing just how fast the equipment multiplies. I would say money is the second biggest need of this hobby. SPACE is #1.

    Poison Ivy

If you get PI while playing with Elderberries, you HAVE the cure. Pick leaves of the Elderberry plant. You can dry them or use them fresh. On the stove, steep these into a tea. DO NOT DRINK! bad for the health. Dab the tea on the Poison Ivy 2-3 times a day. Gone in 3-4 days. Free! Edit: This...

When making fruit wine, should I squeeze the fruit bag daily?

My wife uses the left overs for freezer jam. Good stuff. I quit squeezing the bag but I do let it hang over a 3 gallon bucket for a couple hours after I take it from the must.

    Blueberries picked

We got them for about $1.70 per pound. Cheapest price local. If I drove for an hour and a half I could get em for $1.50 and pay more for gas.

    Blueberries picked

Took a day off, I could not stand it any more. The Blueberry farm had the open sign out! Took the wife with me and in 2 hrs we had just over 41 pounds of the beautiful little berries. Today was the first day to pick on the farm, and the berries are a touch to the tart side. Guess I will have to...

    What R you doing today?

Officially Start a new job at an indoor pistol/archery range and store. Will get paid to do my most favorite hobbies. But takes away all of my wine care time. I have helped out at the shop for a few weeks now helping a friend get the store get open and going. Might as well draw a paycheck if I...

    Bought 5 watermelons today

Used over ripe melons last year in a pinch. Nasty taste that is worse than the smell you talk about. If you try to make the wine keep it far away from any carpeting. you will never get it out.

    Harvest time blues

Wife has been pitting the dark sweet cherries and tarts are ready to harvest. Some of the vines of grapes are ready. Mulberries are ripe. Elderberries are soon to be ripe. Plum's are 3 weeks from ready and the blackberries need picked yesterday. I picked a bad time to start a second job! 50+ hrs...

    I'm here!

I would love to be able to go out to L.V. to shoot again. With my son being 14 months I have a few other things sucking up the play money budget. Just got a second job yesterday as a gunsmith/bow technician. Used to be what I did full time. What is the next wine you are thinking of? Scratch...

Blue berries also bled well in these. Love them in Black or Elderberry wines!

    strawberry wine issues

I find Strawberry to be finicky from the word go. 1) Adding more fruit should not hurt as long as it is not fermenting from natural yeast. Browns the wine and leaves a bad taste. 2) Yes, add more sugar. I like to start my strawberry a bit high at 1.100 to 1.105. This is just what I like to do...

    Hi from Austin, TX

Welcome. You have experience that I do not. I have yet to do a kit. Jumped in head first with white grapes. Think I will be trying a kit later this year though. Have seen a few I really want to try.

    What R you doing today?

Bottled up 54 bottles of 5 flavors of wine for a wedding this Saturday. This will be the third wedding this year. I am dangerously low on wine! Thank God the harvest season for cherries started today. 28 gallons worth of carboy sitting empty is a crime I believe.
