Just got done fermenting a batch of backyard grape. Some off my catawba vine, some from a friends vine of some kind and another from the neighbors unknown vine. Fermented down rather quickly but had the fermenter upstairs so it took advantage of the warm air. Done fermenting and decided to...

    Burnt Honey

Anybody ever run across this? My bil keeps bees. Had 5 gal. of crystalized honey and left it in the heater too long. He says it was burnt, but I took the lid off and it smelled ok to me. My thoughts were during fermentation the oders might fall out and I could rack them off. It has...

    What a year

Just not a great one for winemaking from my place. Cherries and strawberries both got nipped by frost. Looked like there might be enough cherries for a pie or two but the robins started on them before they were ripe and took all of them. Didn't net them as there were not enough of them to...

    Reason for skeeter pee name

Guess I know why Lon named it skeeter pee. Went down yesterday and there was a mosquito floating in the skeeter pee. Guess he died happy and didn't change the flavor of it one bit. I am still wandering around this morning, so guess it didn't hurt me either. Arne.

    This years fruits

Been spending a lot of time on the old prayer bones. Have picked almost enough strawberries for a 5 gal. batch. Still a few more to go. My few elderberry bushes are all flowered out. Think there will be plenty for a batch of wine if I decide to make it. Many folks rave about how good it...

    Blackberry question

My buddys sister sent him a gallon of blackberry juice. He gave it to me to make some wine with. Now the question. Is the blackberry juice strong enough to handle being diluted down? Think she made the juice like you would make it to make jelly. I am going to taste it and thinking about...

    Wild plum problems and solutions.

Made a batch of wild plum a few years ago. It never did clear and always had kind of a funny smell. Foreward to last year, my daughter brought a bag of wild plums. Didn't think there was quite enough so added some pie cherries I had in the freezer. Stuff cleared quite nice, came out with a...
