Doh! So much for that must!

I'm going to stir it daily, see what happens. I guess I don't have to worry about it getting too oxygenated. I do have to wonder what the chances are of it coming out worth a darn.

Doh! So much for that must!

So, I was bored late last week and had a couple cans of frozen concord concentrate. I decided to make up a quick gallon batch. I used the Jack Keller Welch's recipe, decided to do it exactly as he showed it. One thing I should mention is that it calls for a fixed amount of Acid Blend. I have...

    My first Skeeter Pee

My first batch of SP is still bubbling away int he secondary, although slowly. The second batch I started last Sunday, well, it finished fermenting in the primary, read 0.990. So I transferred it to a 4-L secondary, added Campden, Sorbate and some Bentonite (no Sparkalloid on hand). I hope it...

    Air-Locks

I used 3 pieces at first, but for reasons already mentioned I now use only 1-piece airlocks. Even when there are no visible bubbles in your wine, with a 1-piece you can tell if anything is still going on fairly easily. Just look at where the bubble is, and several minutes later look again...

    My first Skeeter Pee

Well, adding the extra Campden didn't have any adverse effect after letting it sit for 48 hours in the primary before adding the yeast slurry. The slurry made a HUGE difference over adding rehydrated yeast from the packet (what I did last time). I used a yeast slurry from some Apple Cider wine...

    My first Skeeter Pee

Well, I've been stirring this stuff up to get the extra sulfite out from my boneheaded move of adding Campden to that lemon uice!:slp I'll dump the slurry in tonight, or maybe even tomorrow morning.

    My first Skeeter Pee

$#@%!!!!!! So I'm mixing up the must for a new batch of skeeter pee, when I see the Campden Tablets and realize I forgot to add them! Good thing I remembered to add that, eh?:slp:slp:slp

    Please talk about TANNIN

Good to know about adding it to fruit wines. This place is great! I'll use some in my next batch of pee to compare to the one brewing now with no tannin.

    What R you doing today?

Debating what new batches of wine to prepare in the next few weeks. Keep on trying new grapes from concentrates that I have never made before, or maybe do some fresh fruit. Blackberries will be coming into season, and I can still get my hands on good strawberries.

    The REAL skeeter pee

So...are you going to take the skeeter larvae and put them in a bag and smash them up and make some fresh skeeter pee with the pulp?

    My first Skeeter Pee

Mine is still bubbling like mad in the secondary. I reserved the slurry from my Apple Cider wine (Premier Cuvee yeast) which I transferred to secondary today, and put it in the freezer. So for my next batch of Pee I will use this slurry to get it started, which will probably be this weekend.

    Upside down tomatoes

Too many people have done this, so i know my dad must have done SOMETHING wrong, but a a couple years back my dad tried this upside down tomato thing. He didn't get strong plants because they tried growing up around the bottom of the container towards the light, and as the fruit come out the...
