    Alternatives to Vinmetrica Solutions

I definitely use distilled water, I have some on hand anyhow for rinsing. All of the bottles have never been opened and they have been inside the ziplock they were shipped in. Do you know if the SO2 acid, reagent and titrant are the same in that way, that they only suffer from evaporation...

    Alternatives to Vinmetrica Solutions

For a home wine maker the Vinmentrica solutions, only good for 6 months, are very expensive. Is there any source of powdered versions or smaller amounts of these chemicals? Can I used the Milwaukee pH calibration powders? I am interested in doing both SO2 and pH testing. Thanks, David

    REVIEW: *allinonewinepump*

I've finally had a chance to pull out my all in one wine pump and now I have some questions. I got the pump for a couple of reasons, most of them lead to saving time. Driving out CO2 is more work to do at the altitude I live at. I've had decent success but I want to be more sure that I've...

Other Who makes great Argentinian Malbec kits now?

The WE 2013 limited edition kits include an Argentinian Malbec Bonarda blend. This is very exciting because that is what my favorite Alma Negra is. Of course I expect the blend to be different but I am still excited to try it.

    WineXpert Winexpert 2012 Limited Editions

One of my new favorite commercial wines is an Argentinian Malbec Bonarda blend. It's Alma Negra. I winner if the grapes are from the Mendoza region too. D

    Kit taste

What is the definition of kit taste? I've seen this term bandied about a lot but I've not seen a good description of it. I also wonder if everyone uses the term to mean the same thing.

    REVIEW: *allinonewinepump*

The ID of the pipe is only 1/2" in diameter, so I was thinking that 1/8" between the pipe and the part the filter mounts on at the bottom of the housing would allow plenty of flow. Is that not enough space for the vacuum to pull in our something like that?

    REVIEW: *allinonewinepump*

The hole in my housing is very very small. I am afraid that tapping it would cut through. The wall looks to be about 1 to 2mm thick. I got the Pentek 158326 1/4" not slim line 10" housing from filters fast. For now I've taken a grey irrigation pipe, which are cheap like borscht, and filled...

What sort of pipe did you add? Is it food safe? How far down does it go? How did you fasten it? David

    For all you sanitization freaks!

No More Tears works great as a cleanser but not a sanitizer.

    Chokecherries

How do you tell when they are ripe if not by sweetness? How does the wine taste? I have never had any cherry wine let alone choke cherry. I am wondering if it is worth my time to try. David

    Chokecherries

I didn't even know that chokecherries were edible. I have 3 Schubert chokecherry trees and one green leafed one. What do the berries taste like when ripe? What does chokecherry wine taste like? I am on vacation right now but when I get home I will have to check on them! David

Other Who makes great Argentinian Malbec kits now?

I took it upon myself to try several Argentinian Malbecs this week and it is definitely the flavor profile I am after. None of them have been quite as strong tasting as my favourite, the 2008 Alma Negra so I'll be looking for some advice making the Cellar Craft kit to turn out better. David

Cellar Craft shelf life for CC kit? do I need to add sulfites??

Go with Ibglowin's advice, add the sulfite and bottle it.

Other Who makes great Argentinian Malbec kits now?

I will have to get me one of those. I wonder how it will compare with what I have in mind? I wonder if adding a little but of tannin or better oak would help.

    everything about tannin

Thank you for your response. I should have stated that I plan on starting with a Argentinian kit. I don't claim to understand much about terroir other than it is the expression of the land the grapes grew in. I've tried a Grand Cru Chilean malbec kit, with crushed grapes, and it is very...

Other Who makes great Argentinian Malbec kits now?

I just checked vineco, winexpert, winekitz, and rjs and only rjs seemed to have any argentinian kits listed, and the only malbec kit was a malbec syrah blend. Cellar Craft used to make one that had decent reviews here but vineco has none listed for any of their brands. I made a Chilean...

    everything about tannin

I am just learning what it is that I like and don't like about wines. One of my new favourite commercial wines is the Alma Negra 2008. This is an Argentinian Mendoza region Malbec and Bonarda blend. I haven't confirmed it yet but I believe that the flavour I like so much in it is the amount...

Cellar Craft shelf life for CC kit? do I need to add sulfites??

Ok. I have my SC-300 now. Tim V wrote an article in which he said that kit wines should have a target of 35 to 50 ppm of free so2. Is that a good target or is there more to it? I still have to wait for my all in one pump before I will rack again. I've got 4 carboys with 2 WE blackberry...
