I can't get down with the white kits

It shouldn't be too bad. I've watched my buddy do all grain a few times. He fly sparges though and I plan on batch. A little different calculations will be involved. I'm glad I never noticed the extract taste before. Wish I could say the same for wine :-)

I can't get down with the white kits

I love Sauv Blanc and Chardonnay. I drink plenty of Riesling as well though. Sauv Blanc always has such an awesome grassy and grapefruit tone to it. Especially the Marlborough grapes. So I like a wide variety.

I can't get down with the white kits

Well. It is hard to describe. It's almost a flat smell. Like whatever aroma is supposed to be there really isn't. It's just a little off putting and really doesn't let me enjoy it as much as I could. I've only done extract brewing. I actually have my mash tun cooler kit coming this friday...

I can't get down with the white kits

Well the first one was the the Vintner's Reserve Mezza Luna White. I messed it up though. ( The reason I found this board ) I added the f-pack to the primary. So it was a little lethal. Second was the Vintner's Reserve Washington Riesling. It actually wasn't that bad. Taste was good but the...

I can't get down with the white kits

It is interesting how the "KS" will diminish in time, though. Until then, me no drinkie. How long on average does yours take? For whites?

I can't get down with the white kits

Well I'm bottling a sauv blanc right now. It was over $100. It was my fifth white wine kit and I just don't like them that much. I don't know if I'm messing up the process but my Winery Series Grape kit Merlot turned out pretty well. Made in May last year and it's finally losing its kit smell...

    RJ Spagnols Grape skin kits

I sterilize mine. I use Star-San though so it doesn't require any rinsing.

    RJ Spagnols Adding Chemicals

It's the Winery Series Merlot with skin pack. I did the kit instructions. Started in May. Bottled about two months ago and added a quarter tsp of k-meta It smells a little sulphery. It's just not that good. Wine tastes pretty good. It's kind of like the cheap kits I did when I first...

    RJ Spagnols Adding Chemicals

So it's been in the bottle over a month. we tried a bottle and it tastes really good. Only thing is it still has a slight wine kit smell. More sulphery actually. I think I read somewhere that this goes away after roughly a year of aging. is that true? I only added k meta once when bottling...

    Yeast Activator

Check the date on the pack. They are usually only good for six months or so. Sounds like you had a bad pack. I've used them a few times and the package is near exploding after a couple of hours. That or you didn't actually hit the pack and break the yeast nutrient/food/energizer in the...

    Benefits of cold stabilizing.

That kind of defeats the purpose of an airlock. ha :-)

    Benefits of cold stabilizing.

Well I'm about to start my second Winery Series kit. It's the Ausie Heritage. Anyways I want to do some of the techniques talked about on here. So I understand that cold stabilizing for a week will produce potassium bitartrate, wine diamonds. All the other threads say it makes the wines...

Soo... when does this hobby pay for itself?

It's funny. I went to a new local winery the other day. After talking to the manager I found out they still bottle all their wines one at a time. Use a hand corker. One person puts on the labels and the last person uses a heat gun to put on the capsules. If they can bottle thousands of bottles...

    Origination of the word carboy

Anyone know. After looking at a few google searches all I found was it came from the Persian word garabah but nothing else. Just curious...

    RJ Spagnols Adding Chemicals

I've only added what came with the kit. When you guys add them while bulk aging do you just dump them in the top? Or do you stir it around at all? I will definitely save some. It's my first red kit so I'm eager to drink. I'll be patient though. I should probably just go buy another 2 and...

    RJ Spagnols Adding Chemicals

Well it's six gallons but it's filled to the top of the neck. I could transport it but I really don't want to have to deal with it.

    RJ Spagnols Adding Chemicals

So I started my CC Winery Washington Merlot on in May. It's been bulk again since then. I just bought a house and am moving at the end of the month so I have to bottle. Should I add any sulphites to it when I bottle? I think Wade says he always ages these wines a year to start. How would it...

RJ Spagnols Cellar Classic Winery Series additions

I started the Washington Merlot in May. It's still in the carboy. I'm going to bottle this month because we just bought a house and we're moving. I plan on drinking it around Christmas. I'm going to buy the Australian Meritage next. I have heard nothing bought awesome with that kit. I'll let...
