Adjusting Total Acidity in Juice buckets

I just started fermenting my 4 buckets of Chilean juice yesterday, and I measured the PH and TA but didn't add any acid even though the levels where a little low because the PH seemed pretty low too. All the buckets had started fermenting at least a little bit already, and I didn't heat the...

    What R you doing today?

I just started 4 Chilean Juice buckets today, a Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and a Carmenere. I think my TA may be a little low, but I didn't adjust it at all because my PH levels were all 3.2 or 3.3 and I was afraid to make them too low. My TA levels were in the range of...

    Wine Juices

I'm picking up my wine juice this weekend, I ended up ordering 1 each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Carmenere, and Malbec. I'm wondering if I have to add sulfites to the juice buckets 1 day before the yeast, or are they already sulfited? I'm planning to do malo-lactic fermentation...

    Wine Juices

I think I changed my mind, I'm just going to make the wine from the juice buckets without adding grapes unless I can find some that are the same varieties as the juice. Besides checking the Brix, TA, and PH and adjusting if needed, should I add anything besides yeast to the juice, tannins or...

    Wine Juices

I'm getting ready to order some buckets of Chilean Juice, probably Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, and I was thinking about adding some crushed grapes to it during the fermentation. Due to the earthquake I won't be able to get fresh grapes from the same place that is selling me the juice in...

So why would I buy buckets of juice over kits

That sounds just like a Pinot Noir to me (sorry it didn't turn out, but I couldn't resist).

    What R you doing today?

I think you stole Michigan's snow, we've had much less than average around here. Some of the guys who plow driveways in the winter here are hurting for business.

New Vinoseal glass closures and bottles

I talked to someone I know who works for a wine distributor, and he managed to get me 2 empty bottles (originally contained a German Reisling) with the glass stoppers among the 2 cases of empty bottles he brought me after a wine tasting. I bottled some Amarone I made from a kit in those...

    This is me!

I'm not really sure on the windows, but they appear to have 2 panes, but without a space between them. Right now it's 17 degrees F and 66% humidity (inside it's 38%). The flasks are pretty neat, and it's fun to drink out of them, but mostly I got them for yeast culturing.

New Vinoseal glass closures and bottles

Thanks for the replies, I'll look into the local winery options. I haven't heard of any of them using Vinoseal, but maybe someone does. I had been planning to reuse the bottles and stoppers for my home use, I know people put the stoppers back on to store a partial bottle, and some people...

New Vinoseal glass closures and bottles

I guess I see why these glass stoppers only show up on more expensive bottles of wine. Where do you get bottles for $2 a case Running Wolf?

New Vinoseal glass closures and bottles

I'm looking into the possibility of splitting up an order new bottles with Vinoseal glass closures. The antique green claret style bottles are $9.39 per case of 12, or $ .783 each, and the closures are $.41 each and come in boxes of 480. The minimum order is one pallet of 112 cases. Overall with...

    Resveratrol Protects Lungs

All the studies about the health effects of drinking are interesting, but it gets confusing if you try to decide whether it is healthier to drink moderately or not at all. I decided it was better for my mental health to say screw it and drink because I like it! :b

    Help in designing my wine

I know from cooking that the celery leaves will add a lot of celery flavor. I usually add those to the pot if I'm making chicken soup stock, not sure how that will be in a wine though.

    Wine Juices

Nevermind, I found the order page. Does anyone know of anyplace closer to Northern Michigan to find juice like that? I'd have to buy a lot of juice to justify the $100+ gas bill to get there and back! For other people who may wonder, here's the list: CHILEAN BARBERA JUICE BUCKET 6...

    Wine Juices

I was wondering what varieties of wine grape juices they carry, but I didn't see any list on the website. Does anyone know where to find that? Do they carry most kinds or are there just a few varieties they carry?

    What R you doing today?

Sunday I'm bottling my first wine, which is an Amarone from a kit, and tonight I'm going to be researching growing grape vines. I wanted to grow Cabernet Sauvignon (or some other grape to make a nice, big red wine), but that's a zone 7 vine, and I'm in zone 5 northern Michigan. From what I've...

    This is me!

I just joined, and I'll be bottling my first wine kit on Sunday, which was a selection international Amarone. I started into this hobby making beer, so here's a picture of me drinking a Belgian Tripel I made.
