    A bottle of Merlot

A man asked a waiter to take a bottle of Merlot to an unusually attractive woman sitting alone at a table in a cozy little restaurant. So the waiter took the Merlot to the woman and said, 'This is from the gentleman who is seated overthere,' and indicated the sender with a nod of his head...

    Colossal Olives

Google "true martini" or history of the martini and it seems dry gin is the spirit most associated with the true martini, everywhere, except for a small zip code in California.

Kit K met and vit. C shelf life

Fuzz: Thanks for the input. You're not alone thinking the costco wine is thin. I'd be interested in what RJ Spanols kits you like best.

Kit K met and vit. C shelf life

The kit the k-met/vit.c pack came from was 4-5 years old. As for my history with the costco kits, I've yet to make a bad batch. We will have the costco wine roadshow in Calgary in 2 weeks and I'm thinking of getting some of the Barolo and Amerone. How did it turn out for you?

Kit K met and vit. C shelf life

The costco kits all come with it and I'm pretty sure the Cellar Craft Lodi old vine Zinf. did as well. The pack itself was LDPE plastic and has since been change to the same packaging as most yeasts come in. Juice looked unaffected by time, but we'll see soon. I figure I'd push the envelope...

Kit K met and vit. C shelf life

I'm wondering if there is a shelf life to K-met/Vit. C packs that come with most wine kits? Reason is, I opened a pack for my wine and the crystals were yellow not the usual white. When mix with 1/4 cup of water, showed a tinge of yellow also. The pack was a few years (4-5) old but I used it...

    Dark Red?

I have the same kit at about the same stage and I see no light using a flashlight as you did.

How do you attach your labels?

Bein Bein, if you're talking about a sealer for the shrink caps, you're probably gonna need a commercial heat gun. I do pond liners and I have heat gun that gets hot enough to fuse plastic and set at about 3/4 power, will heat shrink the capsule with 2 quick blasts, top to bottom. If I didn't...

    What R you doing today?

Fixing a $25 vacuum pump I bought on Ebay. You get what you pay for. Motor didn't turn. 1 hour, some shims and a little compressor oil later it was running like a top. (Gomco, so if you have similar problems, message me)

How do you attach your labels?

I print my labels on a sheet of 1 3/4 x 1/2" Avery Easy Peel labels and then attach them to the shrink cap. No glue to the bottle and easily removed.

So what's on your equipment wishlist for 2010

Checking the site Wade referred to, shows cartridges at $75 and if they are $35 at Wally World, it seems still to be a bit pricey. I'd be tempted to take a coffee filter(s) and attach to the carboy using a elastic band and inverting into a clean 10 gallon fermenter. Only problem, it doesn't...

So what's on your equipment wishlist for 2010

That's some serious filtering, but it make sense. You got me wantin one too. My Ebay vacuum pump just came (Christmas present from me to me) and now I have more reasons to justify buying it, hehe! 1 question; can you filter then return it to bulk aging in the carboys or would it be best to...

So what's on your equipment wishlist for 2010

Hmmm, I would of thought the cartridges woulda been more expensive. On a similar note, that would give the 1st verse of the 12 days of Winemakers Christmas: "...a cartridge and Bottle tree..."

So what's on your equipment wishlist for 2010

Okay Wade, if I understand you correctly, this is a water filter meant to filter water to make wine and not a water filter rigged to filter wine.

So what's on your equipment wishlist for 2010

OK........, I'm scratching my head as to what a whole house filter for wine must look like.

    Wine rack photos/dimensions

If looks isn't important, put a plywood blade on your tablesaw and buy 1 sheet of 1" plywood and rip into 1" x 2"- 8 foot lengths. Plywood @ $48 per sheet gets you 23-24 perfectly str8 lengths. $2.00 per is cheap with no knots and way stronger than ordinary wood. Doesn't crack either when you...

    Tweeking

Actually the kits I just bottled were OK. My wife and her friends like the Merlot Lite and it seems to mature quick, which will save my expensive kits from being consumed before their time. I am still waiting on a Costco cheap merlot that was started with a grape skin pak after its initial...

    Tweeking

I have a Costco double pak, Merlot/Cab Sav. I've just bottled the same kits I started 2 months ago and the results at the corker are pretty good, considering. For the paks "on deck", I am thinking of adding some fresh fruit syrup to the primary to see if I can change the complexion a little...
