Yeah, seems a bit low. I'll test them out with the voltmeter when they show up. :sp

    Glass carboy cracks

I bought two 3 gallon carboys about 9 years ago. One had a crack the other not. The cracked one was garbage and the good one is still good after all these years. I vowed to never buy (online) glass carboys again. Luckily for me when a neighbor got out of the wine making hobby and sold me...

Apple Wine -- First Ever Wine Attempt

I've been making wines now for a good number of years. The idea of becoming a world famous wine maker are gone. Never a real thing, but even the small inkling is gone. With that in mind I have scaled back the complexity of the process. Water, sugar, juice, yeast, and that IS IT! Simple...

    oregon grape wine

I racked the first 2 six gallons. I little taste test and it is so good. I'll rack the 2nd six tomorrow, and then they sit til as least next May. I also have 2 six gallons of Elderberry that is still fermenting.

    oregon grape wine

I missed out on making wine last year. I had Sciatic Nerve issues that keep me from doing much at all. Almost 8 gallons of Oregon Grapes stayed in the freezer for a year and a half. Started up 2 six gallon buckets that stared fermenting this morning. I had run out of Yeast Nutrient and...

    oregon grape wine

Actually, I used 8 lbs per 6 gallons. I do a lot of stirring and bag squeezing. I was even hoping to doing another batch with some reuse. When I pulled the strainer from the fermentation bucket I could see that the berries gave all. My latest batch was Apple wine, and I passed the apples...

    oregon grape wine

Wine is fermenting nicely. Four 6 gallon worth. Another bumper crop of the berries, so I will begin making another big batch about the time this current batch is ready for bottling, next spring.

    Where to get sugar

I felt like another hoarder just buying the 3 that I did. I was at the same grocery store yesterday, and they have plenty of sugar now, at least ten 25lbs bags. Price is still high, but at least it is now available. Feels like things are starting to normalize.

    Where to get sugar

I found sugar this morning. C&H was ~$25 for a 25lb bag. An off brand was $18.99 a bag. Twice what I have paid in the past, but I grabbed 3 bags and am happy to have them. :db I will start the Oregon Grape wine tomorrow. I consulted an old recorded success from years ago, and this sugar...

    Where to get sugar

I just don't understand the run on sugar. Before making wine, I don't recall ever buying even a pound of sugar. Maybe a little on some cereal, or in tea or coffee, but that was it. I have to go into Missoula tomorrow, and I borrowed my neighbors Costco card. Maybe one of the 2 Walmarts might...

    Where to get sugar

TP and Sugar is political? I have never heard that before.

    Where to get sugar

I can't seem to find the usual 25lb bags of sugar. The covid-19 has created a run on sugar. Maybe I won't be making any wine this year. :(

    oregon grape wine

I am getting anxious to start making the wine. Weather is warm for this time of the year, but still just a wee bit to cold to get a fermentation going.
