Batonnage (stirring of the lees) for Gewurztraminer

I found this " Because it does reduce fruitiness, it is almost never desirable for 'fruity' Germanic style wines such as Riesling or Gewurztraminer, nor in any sweet wine." http://www.piwine.com/introduction-malo-lactic-cultures.html

Is it possible to re-use red wine barrels to barrel-ferment whites?

Yes small barrels are harder! YouTube video of DIY reconditioning.

    Bug in airlock

Someone once told me that if you have fruit flies in your air locks that means the air locks are doing a good job.

A zinfandel, a cab franc, and a carmenere. I got zero right, nada, zilch. Oh well it was fun and the wines...

    I need wine bottles!

A local wine bar has given me more bottles than I could ever use and as a side note i found this little tidbit online - President Ronald Reagan is the reason why the drinking age is 21 everywhere these days. In the 1980s, nearly half of states still allowed residents to buy alcohol at age...

Feel like throwing in the towel!

Hang in there, I have no rain, no water, I water my 16 little backyard vines with water from the shower and the leftover water after washing the dishes. I think I will figure out how to hook up the washing machine and use that water.

    New Vine Drought Watering

Someone told me that the roots will go to where the water is, that is why I put my drip irrigation emitters off to one side so the roots would be encouraged to grow more. But that was when there was water in California.
