I switched mine to VSP. They definitely want to go up. My Concords want to go down but I trained the to go up via VSP Too. I had to run more catch wires too. Totally worth it.

The Japanese beetles have been causing damage on my leaves here in SE MI. Just sprayed Sevin on them yesterday. They all die in about 30 mins. Also use Japanese beetle traps.

You may have better luck than me.

I switched from top wire cordon to vertical shoot positioning because the canes were too vigorous and wanted to go upwards. I had a hard time combing and tieing them down. VSP is much better. On the contrary, my Concords did just the opposite trellised to VSP and wanted to lie on the ground...

I took some pictures today of the vines. They are doing amazing. The first picture is just after or about bud burst and the second one is today just after influrescense.

I did the same thing last year. My Marquet vines liked to train upward which made my TWC difficult to coax the shoots downward. Much easier going up from the bottom wire in VSP. In fact, I changed all of my vines to VSP. We'll see hop it goes this year. I'm finally expecting fruit!
