How much malolactic bacteria to add

I dump the packet on to a 1/8 measuring cup and remove a granual at a time to get my amounts.....and hope you don't sneeze! I asked a serious question whether you can use a whole package of bacteria that would treat 66 gallons in a 6 gallon batch. As a super moderator, is this supposed to be...

    Help with small vineyard planning

I have not seen the 5-foot wire thing for deer. I say about 5 feet because that's about where a wire would touch a deer on his throat. 48" would probably work better though. Wild or domestic, 8000 volts will send any animal to the moon.

    Help with small vineyard planning

I plan on using solar powered electric fencing around my vineyard. A wire @ 5' will deter deer, and a wire @ 12" to 18" would deter raccoons and foxes. Works great for keeping my 2000 pound percheron in his pasture.

    Potassium Metabisulfite

I have been using PBW to clean and Star San to sanitize. Meta K seems so caustic, is there a benefit to using that over Star San?

    Other white wine kits poll

I am making a Traminette wine from Walker's juice. Since that is not on the list I would have to vote for Gewurztraminer since they are related.

Thanks. At 25 dollars a pop I'd hate to throw any out. :)

How much malolactic bacteria to add

I have searched through back posts on malolactic fermentation and I can't find an answer to a simple question. Packets of bacteria come in a size to treat 66 gallons. Once you open the package it does not keep. So my question is, if you are only doing a 6 gallon carboy, do you use the entire...

    Marquette juice bucket

I'm carpet bombing to see what grows best here Reds: Marechal Foch, Noiret, Corot Noir, Marquette for wine, and Faith, joy, Thomcord and Vanessa for table grapes. Whites: Vidal Blanc, Traminette, La Crosse, La Crescent, Seyval Blanc and Itasca. Walker's has several of these varieties for sale...

    Marquette juice bucket

Walkers has been mentioned quite a bit before, you can do a search on the forum for them. Thanks, I did find several posts.

    Marquette juice bucket

I live in central Illinois and I am planting a number of different varieties of red and white grapes to see what grows well on my farm and what tastes good to me. Of course it will be a few years before harvest. I found a site that sells 5 gallon buckets of Marquette and Traminette, as well as...

    Has my MLF started?

I was always under the impression that you hold off adding K meta if you are going to do mlf. Am I wrong?

White wine primary fermentation in glass carboy or bucket?

Thanks for all the great info. So if I understand correctly, given two wine kits,(red and white) with no skins in the red kit, I would ferment the red in a bucket to allow more oxygen and faster fermentation, and the white in a glass carboy to reduce oxygen and slow down fermentation. And I...
