Just bought a wine press at a yard sale. Great condition, no rust, no rot, everything seems to work perfectly. However, wanted to make sure I gave it a good cleaning and if necessary seal the wood with something. Any suggestions as how to best proceed?

Nice press. Not sure on cleaner. Maybe some sodium carbonate and a stiff brush?
I recommend EZ-DO for the protective finish.

Looks rather dark. Is it an antique? How was it stored up 'til now?

The problem is that wood absorbs. Be mindful of what cleaners you use. If this is not a finished press, I would take it apart, sand and then coat with EZ-DO. I have used this product on my own press and the finish is still great (even after 4 years of serious use).
