    Fertilizing established grapes.

My BIL is a generational farmer. He says current literature says that we can only alter the top 4 inches of soils with amendments. He recommends taking a sample from within that layer and getting it tested. Then the following year doing the same.

    Fertilizing established grapes.

So much information. 😅 I ended up putting the triple 16 on at 1/3-1/2 cup per plant. I dropped it about one foot from the trunk of each plant. We have had 15-30 inches of rain in over the last several months so all the granules have dissolved. It’s been in the 50’s most days, we’ve had a couple...

    Fertilizing established grapes.

Looking at my old soil tests from several years ago the recommendation was to add gypsum. I’ll add that this time since I missed it back then.

    Fertilizing established grapes.

All excellent advise and also very nice to hear how others are fertilizing. I will go ahead and do a balanced fertilizer this year. Next year i will do a soil test and see if there are other nutrients needed. Photo for interest.

    Fertilizing established grapes.

I planted my 1.75ac vineyard in 2018. In winter/spring of 2021 I fertilized with 15-15-15. Now it’s 2024 and I am going to fertilize again. I have 16-16-16 this time and i am planning about 1/4 to 1/2 cup per plant. Thus far I have had very reasonable growth and harvests. Anyone also...

    Starting a new vineyard

Chris it’s been fun going back and following this thread from the beginning. What a crazy cool and fun process from start to finish. Can’t wait to hear how the wine turns out. Maybe i missed it but which nursery did you end up getting your vines from? I saw that you mentioned Novavine. That’s...

    My intro post!

Ha. Well I considered an orchard but in my area a couple acres of orchard are not worth the work. I love the beauty of a vineyard so I planted the front yard with it. I worked a deal with a friend who has a winery and distillery and he takes 85% of the grapes (he gives me back bottles wine in...

    My intro post!

Hello wine making talk. I am a new Vineyard owner and winemaker in a very hot climate in Chico California. I planted my vineyard in the spring of 2018. My first harvest was August 2019. I’ve made wine every year since with some success and a lot of failures. I have about 1.75 acres of grapes...
