    Electric Fence Netting

Let us know how this works out. I was planning on putting electrified wire netting suspended on PVC pipe over a row of strawberries to keep deer off them. I read somewhere that this might not work unless you have a really high output (expensive} fence charger unit. It said the netting uses up...

    delay while botteling

Just filled bottles with 5 gallons of blackberry wine. Got called away for 2 hours before I could return to insert corks. How big a problem is this?

My first try is a balloon wine.

When I first made wine some time around 1960 I had not heard of an air lock although I vaguely remember hearing about the balloon at that time. An old-timer advised me to drill a hole in the cork and run a length of tubing to a glass of water. The end of the hose needed to be underwater and it...

    Harvest or not?

I hate to bother you who are more experienced and professional with my question. I have some Glenora grapes (only 4 plants) which have made some good wine in the past. Right now they are measuring 15.5 brix. Unfortunately I will be leaving for about 3 weeks and I don't think they will hold...

    can I save this batch?

I guess my concern is that I had been led to believe that it is best to transfer to secondary at 1.030 SG. I assumed that this is because below that SG there is not enough C02 being released. Thanks for your reply. I feel better about the situation now.

    can I save this batch?

Not a big deal because this is just a one gallon experimental batch but I hate to throw anything away. I started some plum wine at S G 1.090. Stuff happened that kept me away for eight days and the S G had dropped to almost 1.00 by the time I could get in to a secondary container with airlock...

    Stuck/ slow blueberry wine

I had a batch of blueberry that kept getting stuck . My wine shop guy said blueberries are frequently difficult to kick into good fermentation and gave me a suggestion that worked for me. Make a robust starter of 1 quart of pure grape juice and let it work for several hours before adding to...

    Problem with timing

You probably noticed that I dropped a zero. I meant 1.090 etc.

    Problem with timing

I'm new here but have been making some wine every year for at least 40 years. I should know the answer to this question but I know there are members with a lot more experience then I have. I started a 10 gal batch of blackberry/blueberry at a starting SG of1.90 3 or 4 days ago. Now I find that...
