    Hi

Well, I know it's been a million years years since I have been on. I hope all is well and I look forward to hearing from those of you that I have not spoken to in forever. We had a very traumatic family issue, that has pretty much taken over my life. So, I haven't been making any wine (but I've...

    WineXpert Rosso Fortissimo and heat

Well, I came home from vacation to find that my air conditioner had stopped working while on vacation. Now, if that doesn't throw you back into reality, I don't know what does. My house was floating between 85-90 degrees, not bad since it was like 108 outside. Anywho, I noticed that in my...

    Whew! Summer

Well, I haven't been on the ol' forum in quite some time. I hope everyone is having a great summer and doing well. Things are settling down a bit, so I am sure you will be hearing much more of me. Take care- Donna

    WineXpert Rosso Fortissimo

Started my Cellar Craft Rosso Fortissimo today. SG 1.09, temp 78. All I can say is, Oh my goodness!! The taste, the smells are like nothing I can even describe. If the beginning is an indicator of the end product, I am going to be in heaven, and definitely making more!

    Cellar Craft Cellar Craft

I'm so excited, I found Smurfe's Cellar Craft Rosso Fortissimo that he brought to our mixer, and ordered one. It's coming from MI. If I would have known earlier, I would have had the Princess haul down for me in exchange for a few bottles. I can't wait to make it, and if it turns out half as...

    101 in Texas

Let me just say that it was 101 in my neck of the woods yesterday, and they are calling for the same today. On the themometer on the outside of my hot tub said 112 in the sun! My air conditioner is running non stop, and my wine fund is going to have to be moved to cover the electric bill

    Next homemade-- MEAD!!

Ok, I have decided my next homemade batch that I am going to attempt is going to be a mead. If you have a great, (beginner) recipe (that has pretty good directions, or you don't mind getting hit up w/ questions), please post or PM me. I am very excited, as I have never had mead, at least not...

How much wine do you drink??

A serving is 6 ounces and the recommend amount is 1 glass a day for women, and 2 glasses a day for men. Typically I have 1-2 glasses a night, about 4 nights a week. But since I have started making my own wine, and bottled it, I really want the whole bottle. It just seems so sad if I sit it over...

    WineXpert Quick question

I did step 3 on my 3rd kit (blk. ras. merlot). I had a good bit wine that I could not fit back into the carboy after adding the f-pak. I put it in a couple of small bottles with screw lids (it's all I had). Will it be ok to keep like this to top up, or should I toss. Thanks - always! D

    strainer bag

I just racked Martina's pumpkin wine from primary to secondary. Boy talk about sediment. Anywho, can you reuse the strainer bags? If so, does anyone have a special cleaning tip, or do we just trash?? Tks--d

    new label

I need to get back into the swing of label making. I've got a big few weeks ahead. Oh, and I called my local Staples Office Supply, for $.39/pg, they will print out my labels off of the color laser (6 on a pg), not too bad?? You can email them the file, they will set it up, print, and even cut...

    WineXpert The dreaded de-gassing!

ok, so tonight as planned I racked my chianti off the lees into another carboy. It still didn't taste all that hot, but I keep saying it's a baby "red" wine, it need to age at least 3-6 mo. before it is going to start tasting ok. But it was also really fizzy on my tongue. So I did the shaky test...

    WineXpert chianti racking question/chardonnay

Ok, as many know, my first kit was the chianti. Tomorrow is the day that the instructions said I could bottle. But, I was thinking about letting it sit for another week or two(I'm in no hurry, it's not like I should be drinking it yet anyway .) But, there is a lot of lees that is really powdery...

    WineXpert Peach/Apricot Chardonnay

I'm so excited! Tomorrow, I get to go onto step 3 of my peach apricot chardonnay. It is totally amazing to me how clear this wine already is. I have been good and not touched it once - since moving to step 2 over to the carboy. Next week, I should hopefully be able to bottle my chianti? It...

    WineXpert Cabernet Franc & Port

I went to D'Vine wine yesterday in Grapevine, Tx and did a little wine tasting. Had a cabernet franc which was excellent. I heard they use wine expert kits. Has anyone ever made a cab-franc. Also, had a port and a choc. port, YUM. Has anyone ever made any of the WE- ports? Tks-Donna

    WineXpert chianti question?

Sorry for the crummy picture. Of corse, can't keep out of it (hopefully that will pass) so I decided to check the SG (it will be 10 days in the primary on 3/3 and then the reading should be 0.996. I did a reading at it was at 0.990 (right on the line where I attempted to put my pencil). So...
