I'm getting ready to start a 5 gal batch of Blackberry/Merlot and would like to oak it. I picked up 4 oz of French oak at the hbs..what amount should I use for a relatively medium oak flavor?

My wifes family found out I'm making wine and a few sampled a half bottle of blackberry in the icebox that was leftover after bottling. They drank 4 bottles of it the other night ata party. Down to 10 bottles of it now. Don't think it will make it to maturity. Oh well!

<DIV =postcolor>Well now, my first kit is now officially underway. It is a Vino del Vido Chilean Cabernet Merlot. Initial S.G. was 1.084 at 76 degrees. I was going to start my other kit but realized that my second primary would be to small. Guess I'll use it to start a 1 gallon batch of Kumquat...
