    Greg's North Dakota Vineyard

The previous owners were feeding hay comtaminated with Tordon at high enough levels to have left residue that is still killing broadleafs and the animals survived?

    Trellis Wire Spacing

I'm getting ready to install my trellis wires and am wondering what spacing everyone is using. I'm planning a Munson system for the Kay Gray, Valiant and Elvira and a VSP for the Marquettes. My posts are 64" high and I was planning to have the bottom wire at 20", middle wire at 40" and the top...

Deciding the Cardinal Direction of Rows

I've set my rows up running 15 degrees west of north. I read somewhere that someone had done some calculations and that should be optimum although no studies had been done to confirm it. I've since read that 15 degrees east of north is best. Maybe just take an average and run them due north...

    Trellising with Gripples

I ordered a Gripple value pack from Orchard Valley. That's the tool and 250 Gripples. You get the tool free with the deal :b Looking forward to getting started on the wires. The vines need them.

    Trellising with Gripples

I'm getting ready to install trellis wires for the vines we planted a year ago. I had intended to use the ratchet wheels for tensioning and a press tool with sleeves for joing the wire but then I came across the Gripples. Anybody using them for trellis construction? It looks like a good system.

How did you pick your varietals?

We picked ours based 1st on hardiness. We're in zone 4A-B and chose vines that should easily survive/thrive here. Then we looked at disease susceptibility and ease of care. And then type of wine and demand for the variety. We ended up with Marquettes, Kay Grays, Valiants, and Elviras last...

Flower Clusters on 1st Year Vines

I was in the vineyard a couple evenings back puttering around with some tying and noticed that the Louise Swenson and Brianna that we planted a month ago are loaded with flowers clusters :b I started picking them off but ran out of daylight. Both are 1-X vines from Double A and are growing...

    Anyone Growing Marquette Grapes?

Has anyone growing Marquettes had issues with the early bud break? I've read they are the earliest of the cold hardy varieties. I had some new growth burn off from frost on some this spring. They're all pushing new growth and not all were affected. Some are just farther along. This is their...
