About two miles east, Federal troops encountered Rebel troops in Olustee, Fl. Very large contingent of both armies. The rebel troops have brought in artillery on flat bed railroad cars and pounding the federal troops. The federal troops have also launched a barrage of artillery.

there seems to be massive casualties. I am hearing the artillery as I type. Very scary situation.

It's the 14th... I thought that wasn't supposed to happen until the 20th?

oh, i forgot, you kind southern folks call it....

The War of Northern Aggression.

I also heard that Lee never surrendered. Grant stole Lee's sword, and Lee was too much of a gentleman to ask for it back..

BTW, I just started reading ... "Company Aytch" by Sam Watkins. This book was cited often in the Ken Burns civil war documentary. The book takes a little getting used to. Folks wrote in a much more complex style in the 19th century. So far, though, this is a good read. The author seems to have been everywhere during the war.

No, Lee thought Grant was a blacksmith and gave him his sword to have it sharpened.

Contrary to popular belief the South didn't lose the war were just waiting on more supplies. ;)
