I have pulled many corks in my time, but last Friday was a first for me.
I went to open a bottle of wine but when I had screwed into the cork, and pulled, the screw pulled out of the handle.
I then grabbed another corkscrew and gave it a second try. This was a different type of corkscrew (the lever type of corkscrew). I screwed in next to the broken corkscrew, gave a pull, and once again the screw came out of the handle.
This left the remains of two broken corkscrews stuck in the bottle.
Well, as I always say, "when in doubt.. vise grips"!
I clamped the vise grips onto the two broken shafts, put the bottle between my knees for leverage, and gave a good yank. Thankfully, the cork came out and I did not spill a drop..
I can understand one screw breaking, but not two!
Here is a picture.
