Last winter the extreme cold killed my muscadine vines down to the ground or almost to the ground. I spent the summer training the vines that sprouted from the ground or the stumps back up to the wires on my GDC trellises. Now I find that rabbits are chewing up my vines as illustrated in the pictures. I can't seem to win.

That is the biggest challenge of growing your own grapes. There are so many problems that call befall them - cold, too wet, too dry, hail, disease, rodents, birds and so on and on and on..........................

Thats what I would do. Slice them lengthwise then use some duct tape in several spots to hold them in place. I had to do this on several of mine to keep a puppy that would chew on anything from chewing through some of my 3 year old vines by the patio.

I have used the tree wraps that spiral around the base before. That worked pretty well.
