New to winemaking, haven't tried mlf before. I'd like to try it on a 6 gal. batch of chancellor grapes I'm going to crush this weekend (after primary fermentation). However I don't have a chromatography kit and I'm not going to buy one for now. Anyway my homebrew store doesn't stock the cultures but can get them in a few days for me. Is it worth doing mlf without the test kit? Or should I just leave it alone for this one

I don't have a chromatography kit but still do MLF. You can get test strips for MLF. You can taste it, checking for when it goes from tart to smooth. Or you can just do MLF for a set period of time like six weeks. The latter two are certainly not scientific but you would at least get some benefit from the culture.
