Wanted to get an idea of fertilizer practices. Time/N-P-K levels/type of application. Anyone want to talk about it?

for an established vineyard use standard 10-10-10 fertilizer. ! cup per plant in fall post harvest and one in spring at bud break. Post harvest as 40% of root growth on plant is in fall. at bud break as by time the entire benefit of fertilizer is up the plant should be about flowering or cluster setting.

This really is determined by the area you are, type of grape vines and the soil type. Sal has a good general recommendation, but it could vary a lot from that at times. The best way is to get soil, leaf and petiole samples at their appropriate times. Again check with your extension office.

Is it better dissolved in water, liquid form or dry? Also are foliar sprays mainly rescue treatments for deficiencies?

applications can be dry. foliar sprays for nitrogen can be used just need to be careful. these treatments can be used to correct deficiencies in minor nutrient. soil test and petiole analysis as recommended are required to identify.

Look over at the left where it says Barbiek is in zone 5 and Coco Overland Park, Ks. You can save everybody else the trouble of asking if you just include your zone or location like every single person who has responded. An example of what Grapeman said is that if you fertilize (and water) muscadine vines in the fall and they keep trying to grow instead of go dormant, they'll be more likely to get damaged by winter weather.
