Just getting back to making wine after a long pause.
I had been using strips to check ph but thinking about upgrading.
Question: Will I achieve a greater degree of accuracy with an inexpensive meter, say in the $25-$40 range.
Or: Am I just as well using the strips.
Thanks for any input.

As long as you have it properly calibrated with the proper buffer solutions an pH meter will always be more accurate than any strip. I would get the best you can afford based on the reviews from the website that you purchase from.

A Milwaukee mw102 is fairly inexpensive and very easy to use.

For red wines, in particular, I don't see how one can even get an approximate number from pH strips. I have a nearly full container of them -- I only used a couple of them before buying a meter!! :( :)

Thanks very much for your input.
Put the 102 on my Amazon wish list.
Great avatar ibglowin.
