Yes yes, I know... the forum says grape growing but you guys haven't steered me wrong so far and I know wvmountainerrjack lurks around here occasionally.
I planted Samyl and Samdyl elderberries 3 each a little over two years ago. I planted too close (30 feet) to trees and they have struggled a bit and I haven't had a chance to move them so I have mulched and lightly fertilized and finally this year they came out growing aggressively. Last week I checked them out and all of the new growth tips are black and shriveled into almost threads. They otherwise look healthy and have large healthy berry clusters.
Now here is the rub, wild elderberries grow in droves in almost every fence row and tangle.Heck, there is even a small tree version growing here and there. I was trying the european elderberry because of the size and flavor breeding. Any experience or ideas?
