I purchased a Walker's 5 gallon Concord grape juice Hot Pail in September and stored it in a cool
room over the winter. I opened the pail a couple of weeks ago to start the wine and
there was about a pound of large crystals on the bottom. After primary fermentation
the bucket sides and bottom was completely coated with sand like grains.
Now I am guessing that my secondary gallon jugs may get coated with the tartrates also. This is the
first time I have run into these wine diamonds. Interesting...

Our carboys of concord are always coated with the crystals. After bulk aging and racking of sediment, they are no longer there.
