I have been reading the posts here about adding oak to wines and the benefits. I have a Pinot Gris that has cleared and am about to rack to a cleaned carboy off the sediment. Does oaking work with Pinot Gris. I was thinking of using a small amount like 1 oz of medium beans (French). Just need to know if this is recommended or not. This is my first wine and want to do the best possible.

I had the same question with the same kit about a year ago... It is generally not recommended to oak a Pinot Grigio (Gris), the oak could over power the characteristics of it. If you want to oak a white, get a chardonnay!!!

I agree with Steve. Pinot Gris is a more gentler wine and is usually
never oaked. A chardonnay would be the way to go for or
white. But if you are stedfast on oaking the pinot, try racking
to two carboys and oaking one and leaving the other alone. An
interesting test I would think.
