Greetings to all forum members and contributors from a beginner down-
east. Although my first kit is on the shipper's truck somewhere north of
New Jersey and I have absolutely no wine making experiences to report, I
want to say how much I have enjoyed reading through all the posts on the
various forum topics. It is very reassuring to see the willingness and
dedication you all express in offering help to newcomers. I look forward
to jumping in when the time comes

Hey Bill Carter!

Nice to meet you! Welcome to the most family-feeling forum (say that a few times quickly -- and after a few wines!) on the 'net. Good to have you here.

I, too, was at the beginning, like you, only a few years ago. I quickly learned from the experienced people here, as well as a few books.

Follow your directions, and if there's any question whatsoever, please write it in the forum. There's usually an answer within an hour or two. At least an answer to calm you, or to get you on track.

What kind of kit is it?

Do tell!

Welcome to the forum, Bill.

I havenever heard it called 'down east'. I have heard 'back east', and usually down here it is called 'up yonder'.

Welcome Bill. I would advise that once you receive your first kit that you contact the Department of Homeland Security and have it decontanimated because it is most surely infected with the "Wine Making" virus from which there is currently no known cure.

Welcome! Good to have you on board! We look forward to hearing how your kit goes. And how exciting for Stinkie! Someone else in Maine! If you're lucky he'll introduce you to Polmolive and maybe you can go on an adventure!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Waldo's comment is true. Once I
announced to my wife that I would try making wine, she quickly got the
"bug" (well, to a lesser degree) and keeps thinking of all the wines she
wants me to make.

Martina - I ordered the Mezza Luna kit, along with all the basic
paraphernalia. I bought a case of used bottles and several small pieces of
equipment yesterday from my local supply store, the Hop Shop.

Stinkie - Yep, another Mainiac. Let me know if you have a go at a Lobstah'
Shell batch. Or how about Rockland Algae? You'll have to explain
Polmolive.

Hippie - I take it you are well south of here (that's ok!) When I lived in
Colorado, the natives there said "back east" or even "out east'. The term
"down-east" refers to locations anywhere east of the New Hampshire/
Maine border. Real down-east Maine probably actually begins east of L.L.
Bean in Freeport. I live in the next town over.

Welcome Bill, nice to have you on board. Remember, any ques don't hesitae to ask. Happy winemaking.

Bill
