In another post on the forum (in the wine section), I mentioned that I'm trying my first hand at mead.

It is currently clearing - slowly but surely - and I was just wondering how long (roughly) does it take before it's drinkable? I've read 2 years, I've read 6 months, and everything in between.

I understand that it takes longer than wine to mature/age, but when could I even start to think of cracking open a bottle? I will be bottling my mead in my little 187 ml bottles, so I would think aging would go a bit quicker in those than in 750 ml ones.

Thanks!

Martina, I think it is dependent a lot on what type of Mead you made but a good rule of thumb, if there is such, from what i have read is that it takes a minimum of a year after it is bottled

Fromwhat I have read every mead is different when it comes to aging but agree with Waldo that 1 year is a good start for the first taste.

Or taste at Bottling and then decide how long you want too wait!

This aging thing will never be a strong point of mine, I think.
