I think I've mentioned this before but I can't seem to find it. There is a winery close to where I live that does this.

I also found another in Virginia that does the same. The one in Va states that it charges $6000 per barrel to produce the wine for you.

Has anyone here ever done this? Could this be a good way to start a wine business?

I do know that a few places in New York City use this type of situation. They have stores in the NYC area that sell wine with their name on it but it is produced about 70 miles outside the city by an already established winery.

Also, I believe you have to be a licensed distributor/producer through the TTB in order to do this.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

That's $20 per bottle cost just for the wine. Add in bottles, labels, corks, foils, labor and I can't see how this could be profitable.

That's probably why some of the wines they sell in Brooklyn are $30 plus per bottle.
