I am making my first mead. It went from 1.1 down to about 1.07 and has been there for a week. I've tried to restart it and cannot.

Last night I tried to restart with some new yeast, warm water, and some of the must (1/2 cup). This morning there is a mass of yeast (swelled up/foamy) floating on top. The liquid isn't working at all.

What are possible issues? I can't measure ph, but plan on going to Walmart and see if they have test strips for aquariums. If it's not that what would it be?

Walmart strips only go down to 6.8....

Can you mix a stuck mead 1/2 and 1/2 with apple juice and get it going that way?

What's the room temp? It's fall, the temperature difference sometimes doesnt register in the 'hey, im making mead' sort of way.

How did you go about putting it together?
