Default SPARKOLLOID Question??

I bought some of this to add to my wine to aid in clearing. directions say to prepare 1 tbsp in 1 cup of boiling water to add to a 6 gallon batch. I have 1 gallon batches so what mixuture should I use since this is for 6 gallon batch?

One sixth, maybe? Do you have six one gallon batches to clear? If so, prepare one cup of Sparkolloid and divide it up. If it's easier to measure, put 1/3 tbsp in 1/3 cup of water---which would be good for two gallons, correct?

Only 1 gallon batches to clear. I was not sure i could just divide it by 6 so I thought I would ask. I suppose I could just make a cup of it and pour in 1/6 to the gallon. I have a second gallon to clear too so it wouldn't be a complete waste.

Default No 5 gallon carboy...

Has anyone fermented a 5 gallon batch and just transferred to multiple 1 gallon glass secondarys for clearing/aging?

yes, but it's a lot more work than just getting the right size of carboy

I just had to do this last week with a 1 gallon batch. The prob. with splitting it is that you have to let it boil for 5 mins and some of the liquid boils away. I just did the regular measurement (1 tbsp to 1 cup), boiled it for 5 minutes, then only used half of a 1/3 measuring cup. (that would be 1/6th of a cup.)

I cook mine for 15 minutes, adding water as it boils off.

Breaking Sparkolloid dose down for 1-gallon carboy
======================================
1 tbsp = 3 tsp / 6 = 1/2 tsp

1 cup = 16 tbsp = 48 tsp / 6 = 8 tsp
======================================

So using 1/2 tsp Sparkolloid to 8 tsp boiling water would give you the correct dose for 1-gallon carboy without wasting any Sparkolloid.

I use 1 teaspoon per gallon with 1/4 cup water pre boiled. A little extra will not hurt one bit. It is easier ti work with 1/3 cup water so when doing 1 gallon I use 1 teaspoon and 1/3 cup water. It works great
