Default Need a quick fix

I forgot to get a rubber stopper for my 1 gallon ferm. Thought I read somewhere that you can use plastic wrap with rubber band , if so how tight should rubber band be around the plastic wrap and bottle ?. I am making JOAM

Yes, the rubber band should hold the plastic wrap over the mouth of the jug. i would only use this if i had made up the must and just needed to hold it until tomorrow when i could purchase a stopper and airlock.

A balloon would be a better idea but yes either will work for short term emegency. Seal it up and then poke a minute pin hole.

In a pinch or short term I will fold over a piece of plastic wrap attach with a gum band. I make it semi snug and leave the area over the opening slightly loose. If there is any degassing or ferm. I will notice that the wrap starts to firm up like a balloon.

You need to keep bacteria out and allow for any gas to escape. A few days is not a problem.
