I was in a local donut shop a while back, and I noticed in the corner they had buckets stacked up, and on them a sign that said 3 dollars. These were 5 gallons and at one point contained donut supplies like cream or custard. Not bad considering I paid much more for mine when I got started.

You might check with a local shop, mine sells them but yours may just give them to you.

For smaller buckets try an ice cream shop. Usually 3 US gallons.

I got a few 3 gal buckets from the local bakery that had icing in them for $1 a piece.
