Default k meta and citric acid

Last fall when we sold our grapes the vineyard asked that we spray the grapes with kmeta and citric acid, they had a reason but with all that was going on it went right over my head. Does anyone (Dan) know the reason..

Rob

Probably to stun or kill the wild yeast.

I would think the k-meta would be okay by itself but I know that many of the people on the forum use a combination of k-meta and citric acid for sanitizing. Could they have been concerned about mold on the grapes?

the citric acid will lower the ph of water so it will be similiar to the ph of wine so you will actually use less sulfite

thanks steve

Adding the citric acid makes it a contact sanitizer also rather then just mea that works off vapors.
