Why Make Your Own Wine?
Some people just wonder if they really should make their own wine. What would the advantage be to making your own wine? What would the cost be? Would it really be any good? Well here are some reasons to give you that nudge to go ahead and give it a try.
First thing is to know that the only thing that really stops you from making your own wine is the fear of starting something more than the actual procedure. Making wine is not a very difficult thing to do, it can be very basic or it can be very technical, it all depends on what you make of it.
One of the best reasons for making your own wine is designing a wine to your taste. Have you ever had a wine where you think “this is so good but I really wish it was a little dryer!” Or a wine that was a little sweeter, or a little smoother. These are things you can control when you make your own wines. You are not making wine for the general public; you are personalizing wine for your taste. There is nothing more rewarding than to try a wine that you have made to your taste. Maybe you like fruits wines and wish there was more fruit flavor or maybe there is too much fruit flavor.
Or better yet, start blending wines to come up with some very tasty beverages. The different
variances you can come up with are boundless. Some blends that people have done are: concord and cranberry, concord and cherry, elderberry and blackberry just to name a few. Also, adding fruit to a wine such as adding apricots to a Muscat can create a whole new wine. There are endless ideas.
Wine making is a great hobby, sitting down and tasting a wine that you made is very rewarding. Or developing a recipe that is just unique is also very rewarding. If you are one who enjoys drinking a glass of wine, not only is this a very exciting hobby but it is a cost saving hobby, you can a bottle of wine for as little as $2.
So if you have never made a wine but thought about it, give it a try and if you are new to wine making don’t be afraid to experiment. There is always someone on WineMakingTalk who will give you a helping hand.
